University of Central Florida NFL football team swaps player numbers on jerseys for QR codes
This spring, the University of Central Florida (UCF) football team will wear QR codes instead of numbers on the back of their NFL jerseys. Teams showed off their new uniforms on Twitter, with a large, custom-made QR code beneath the athlete’s last name that people can scan to access the player’s bio on the UCF website.
See how the feature works in a video posted by UCF coach Gus Malzahn. Judging from the video, it appears that UCF will also display the player’s QR code on the big screen at its home stadium.
You might not associate modern technology with a team named after a medieval soldier, but it’s a creative use of QR codes, and seems like a clever way to promote players.
